Bio:George Metcalfe’s 30 year
international
career in public relations and as a management consultant included
advising
governments, large companies, film stars and pop groups and even
writing and
presenting his own TV show as a young man. Since becoming a coach 12
years ago
he has worked with nearly 500 private and corporate clients.
He says, ‘The truth is that
while our
profession of coaching is incredibly enjoyable and emotionally
rewarding, it is
still really quite tough to get enough business. Research on both side
of the
Atlantic demonstrates similar difficulties. Very few coaches make
enough money.
Yet what we can do for our clients often revolutionizes their lives.
‘The last 40 years or so has given me
a lot of time to work out what has been (for me) the best way of
getting
business. It’s all to do with networking.
‘I suppose it can be summed up in one
word: Referrals. I can help you to get them.
‘People get referrals because other
people know them or know about them. It’s a classic statement
now to say that
people will do business with those they know like and trust. Well,
obviously,
we’ve got to be good at what we do – and there are
so many wonderful coaches
out there just aching to be of use, let alone being paid for it!
‘What often holds us back
is a
combination of shyness, ‘British reserve’ and a
dislike of being flashy and
‘salesy’.
‘I devised my Fearless
Networking
programme as a result of training Barclays bank managers. Most of them
absolutely hated the idea of ‘Networking’ but knew
that in this modern world
they had to do it to get on in their careers.
‘My Fearless Networking
seminar is a
lot of fun and quite interactive. I will share the key secrets that
will unlock
both your confidence and other people’s interest in you and
what you do. How
you use this information will inevitably lead you to getting more
business.
‘I will also give you
useful lists of
networking organizations to join (if you haven’t already).
‘We will discuss that most
difficult
of processes, the Elevator Speech. Yes, there are ways of avoiding that
look of
boredom when someone asks what we do and we say,
‘I’m a coach’!
‘I do hope you will come on
May 21st.
My objective is a path I have tried to follow ever since I became a
coach 12
years ago, while I am building my own business, to help other coaches
do the
same.’
